Galveston Island

The ice cream stand where Ali ate his first ice cream cone was blown away during Ike. It was a small booth run by a Hispanic couple. They sold all sorts of yummy snack foods. I couldn't wait to watch Ali eat his first chocolate ice cream cone along the sea wall. I took many pictures and after the hurricane, I had one framed and placed with some other special photos by our breakfast nook. Ali loves Galveston and misses many of the little shops we used to walk into after trips to the beach.

I've asked around and I can't find anyone in the area that has seen the couple since Ike came and went. I hope they are healthy and happy on some other island selling kiddos their first chocolate ice cream cones along the sea wall.

I always love reading your updates. I read each of them two and three times. Sat 30-May-2009 02:12

Reawaken it with play.

After a basketball game this afternoon, Ali, Ian, and I went to the Galleria to do some shopping. I like the layout of the Galleria. There's a huge skating rink in the center of high end stores. As I walk in and out of these tiny shops where they offer me diet coke with a slice of lemon, I can see Ali skating in circles and falling all over the place.

Today, he wanted to take me to a poster store to buy something new for his room. We've just painted the walls a shade of blue and I recently bought an old pull down map from a school auction to put up parallel to is bed. I told him he could add one framed poster of his choice to the opposite wall. I thought he would choose a boyish poster: Skateboarding, surfing, anything sports related...

I found the poster above while he was looking through baseball related ones. I loved it and thought of buying it to place in Ian's study since I knew he would enjoy it. Ali saw the poster and started discussing it with me. He liked what it meant and chose this poster to place on his wall instead of the massive Red Sox poster. I love it in his room because it's him.

It's so interesting raising a boy and watching him grow into a teen. As a little girl, I liked reading, dancing, and boys. Ali wanted to be outside collecting rocks, climbing trees, and getting dirty. As a teenager, I liked boys, dancing, and reading (the same, but new order). Ali wants to hit the batting cages in the 100 degree heat, tinker outside with tools and take things apart, or just exploring and getting lost. He loves my father's ranch and the horses and trimming the massive lawns all the way around the house. Girls have not entered his radar just yet. At least not in the same way boys did for me at his age.

He's got a girl friend, Ellie, and she's darling. I've noticed he likes to spend time with her at the end of the day during the wind down. The sun is going away and it's firefly time in the backyard. She reminds me of me. She wants to hold his hand and he wants to add the new wheels to his skateboard. She asks if it is okay if Ali goes to see a movie with her family, but he wants to stay behind to practice pitching the ball with Ian.

It's funny to see the differences between boys and girls at this preteen age. I'm just so gosh-darned antsy to see what kind of person he turns out to be as he gets older. I've got assumptions already. It can't be helped. But for now, I'm going to enjoy the boy charm in him and not rush to the teen years just yet.

As a young teen, I had the iconic Farrah Fawcett poster in my room. My mom bought it for me. If you looked closely enough, you could spell out the letters S E X in the curls of her hair (Farrah's, not mom's).

Professor Julap Ione Fitzgerald

I picked up Ali and Julap from my sister's a couple of nights ago. I found them looking at a fun series of photos of my puppy. She looks terrified in every photo.

They totally forgot to finish homework before bed time.

Party

The days are getting much warmer and filled with humidity. A couple of weeks ago, we were having strong storms and severe flooding. I've helped clean out two homes that flooded and together, both have over $600,000 in damage.

I've helped my son's teacher give her classroom a good scrub down. I also gave her an awesome set up from The Container Store as a gift for teacher appreciation week. They owe me some favors and who better to help?

Our land shark, puppy, is no longer nipping at ankles and toes. Success!

I'm cooking with the hubby. We're trying to add more iron to our diet. After some blood work, I've been told I'm anemic. Bummer.

I'm dreading summer. The boy will spend most of the time with his dad in Nova Scotia. I will spend most of my time opening a restaurant. Busy, busy, busy.

It's nice to come home to a man, wine, and my boy. Now, boy is sleeping and we're going for a night swim.

You've been updated.

A restaurant, or YOUR restaurant?

I have been dreaming for a decade or more about what a satisfying journey it would be to open a small restaurant. The kind of place where you get your own coffee. In mismatched mugs. Where I get to serve my own recipes.

*sigh*

I did!

The Land Shark
I did get married. Married life has been wonderful.

I'm now living with TWO males, boy and man. We've added the land shark, er... puppy, to the mix.

And more toilet seats are left up then ever before.

How are you?

You'll have to look for yourself; many updates over JP's place.

Cheers to you and your family, my friend!

Michigan license plates: Those green plates on my Mercury are a set of 1968 plates, a matching set front and rear. In this state, year-of-issue plates can be legally registered for limited use vehicles.
On a side note, I just sold a set of 1968 Texas plates on eBay.

I've been busy.

Didja get married? Look at the happy couple!

I was bummed when you locked your account a while back. Is it unlocked for a while now?

A beautiful morning

Looks like it's going to be a hot morning and the sun is making its way onto my street and the gardens, but it's still a little chilly out. My mind is warm and so are my eyes. The sun is making patterns through the leaves on my wall and I can feel the cool breeze through the sheets. I can taste that cool moisture. Good morning!

Driving from Plano (north of Dallas) to San Antonio was a nightmare. It's summer, it's hot, and gas prices blew up to $3.99. I just paid $4.25 for mine. Everyone slows down passing the gas stations looking closely, hoping for the rare station still at $3.85. I saw it at an Exxon passing San Marcos.
It took two hours to get out of Austin on 35. If you've ever been to Austin, you know there's only one way in and out, 35. Always take the upper levels, they move faster. I saw an interesting old man while driving by the stadium. He had a full beard and he was wearing thick white gloves. He didn't have a/c and was driving with his windows down. After him was a lady with this wonderful bumper sticker. And UT is getting a new campus.
It's summer and everyone is on the road in Texas.

Hahaha! Great sticker. Sat 28-Jun-2008 18:50

We're gettin' hitched!

Ian and I like to fly below the radar. Calling people and making big announcements isn't easy for us. We've decided to mail out engagement announcements to spread the news and we're having fun with the idea. We're going to use a photostrip to tell our story (ya know, the old photobooth with four photos on a strip) with a "pull here" tab up top. Now, how to say it in three photos with "We're gettin' hitched!" being the fourth...

**********************************************************************************************************************

We came home from our Rio Frio trip today and were welcomed with a monsoon. The wind was insane but the rain was nice. After the rain, the air was left clean and crisp. I got a call from a magazine that wants to do a spread on a restaurant I worked on a year ago and they wanted me to drop in so they could take some photos. Before, I'd always let the boss man take care of magazines and spreads. I had no problem passing cred to him because I never made any moves without his authorization and he helped me so much. Now, he's trying to push me to take more of these calls and I really don't want to. I'm happy when I walk away from my project knowing I made my client happy. I really don't care to see myself laying across a table in a restaurant that I designed like I'm the shiz. Unless my team can get into the photo, I'll pass this one along to the boss man, too.

I miss my kid! It's summer and it's too quiet around this place.

Rio Frio

silly
I sent Ian to get some water toys for our Rio Frio trip.

For him: Awesome inflatable pirate ship that can hold three people. Comes with water blaster, inflatable sword, and a secret hidden door for an easy escape!

For me: A pink inner tube.

A new pink bikini? Post updates! Fri 20-Jun-2008 15:37
